This is something I started doing about three years ago. (You can see my previous soundtrack here, here, and here--yeah, it's split into three--I had too many songs ^_^) I do it as a director anyway since the kids I work with like having music to tell them what the next scene is(oh look, another thing to post about!). I found this is also helpful as an actor--at least for me. I am a visual person, so whenever I hear music I get images in my head. And if I can get the right images in my head before and after a rehearsal(and possibly during depending on whether we get a break on or not) I do so much better --in my own opinion, at least. Granted, the images I get in my head more than usually resemble something like a promo for the CW, but whatever.
So once again, for your listening pleasure, here it what I have come up with so far(with my commentary included).
Invincible-All Good Things
I first heard this song in a promo for the CW TV show REIGN(which I will post about sometime in the near future). Every time it plays, I get images of post-apocolypticness(I just made a new word!!!!) which them to into a CW-ified Promo for my current production.
Jaded-The Crystal Method
This is a character song, chiefly due to the few lyrics that are in this song: "Remember all the good things I did for you/And all the bad things I didn't do." Helena and Demetrius anyone?
Midnight-Coldplay
Ok, so normally I don't like Coldplay. Like, at all. I don't know why. And then they released this album, and this album had this song, and this song--I don't know, there's something about it. I was listening to it again the other day and it was like "ohmigosh! dark woods and creepy things in my head! it's a Midsummer Song!"--this is Hermia and Lysander.
Keep Hope Alive-The Crystal Method
Another Crystal Method song(thank you ALMOST HUMAN!). If this production was a movie, this would play during the end credits. This one is also a general mood kind of thing--would make a pretty sipic promo song. Plus, it's Crystal Method BABY!!!!
Jungle-X Ambassadors
Again, another song from a TV promo--this one from SUPERNATURAL(the one show I talk about--A LOT....Ok, All. The. Time!!!). Anyhoo, this song is for Oberon. Even when directing kids productions of this show, I've always felt that he needs a song like this--just for him and Puck. And if the Winchester Bros can have a song like this, there's no reason the Fairy King can't!
Coconut-Fever Ray
I love Fever Ray. With a fiery passion. Possibly due to the fact that I first heard them in one of my favorite movies about two years ago. This group--is BRILLIANT! And this whole entire song screams Fairies! At least the ones in our production.
Aviation High-Semi Precious Weapons
I found this like--an hour ago, because I'm the crazy nut who gets free songs on iTunes if I like the preview. And I liked this preview. So I listened to it, and Hermia/Lysander and Helena/Demetrius got another song. The end.
Throwback to my childhood! My sister and I loved the Police. And Sting. Those two Artists, and Led Zeppelin were our road trip soundtrack. But I digress. This song sounds like something that would be playing when the Players enter the forest to rehearse. Particularly if they happen to the garbed a la military!
Opulence-Brook Candy
I don't know why this is a Titanita song, but it is. Queen of Fairies needs a sipic song, and this is it. "That's all I have to say--about that."
Keep the Streets Empty for Me-Fever Ray
More Fever Ray. Another possible fairy song. Or for the lovers. Or just to calm down--because this comedy is freakin insanely fast and we all need a breather.
So yes. The quirky things I do when I'm in a show. For my own pleasure. Now y'all know what I listen to going to a from rehearsal every day. Just another insight into my crazy head.
