Newest Writing Project

Puck, or Robin Goodfellow; only in my version, he'd be a teenager
As I am in the throes of summer boredom(already) and am in a show, I have been thinking.  Every summer in addition to all of the other things I've got going on, I like to have a writing project--as I am first and foremost, a writer. Also, I read. A lot. And in the course of my reading this past year(or two) I have been reading adaptions of Shakespeare's stories--And it occurred to me that one of the current popular things to do in this day and age is to adapt classic stories with a twist--and I love it. It's been done by authors like Lisa Klien, Shannon Hale, and AJ Hartley.

I have read ALL of these--they're sick! Except Hamlet. I'm waiting on tinderhooks for that one!

BUT, so far as I can see, no one has written a book of the supernatural characters(Titania, Oberon, Sycorax, Caliban, Puck and Ariel)--ok, so maybe there is one about Puck that was written in the late nineteenth century, and there was a book written from Ariel's point of view recently--but what if there was a book, or play, or something where all of these people knew each other. And there's always been little juicy tidbits--like the aftermath of Titania and Oberon's quarrel over the Changeling Boy, and Caliban's backstory, and other things like that--that have always been intriguing to me. And there is so much room for peitc licence, that it's really hard to resist the temptation to tie characters of the same caliber, or in the same area, together.

Lisa Fiedler did that when she wrote Romeo's Ex(see photo above). Since the story is set in Italy, and several of Shakespeare's characters are Italian, the story has Petruchio, Sebastian, Viola, and Katerina as side characters--and very interesting ones.

So I am going to do the same thing.

Oberon--as I see him in my head(thank you Google Search Engine!)

Wouldn't it be amazing if they all knew each other? If Oberon, Titania, Puck, Ariel, Theseus, Hippolyta, Demitrius, Helena, Caliban, Sycorax, Prospero and Antonio all knew each other. How sick would that be?

So that's my latest writing project. I don't know if it'll be a play or a novel or a short story or what, but right now, it's rattling around in my head and wants out. I make no promises as to quality(as this is the place where I put the first drafts of all my work!) but I can assure you that it'll be a bubblegum project(tons of fun!)

First challenge: decide what venue to write it for--book, film or stage--outline, and pick title. Oh, and write the thing nee personal computer. No pressure.
